How Brands 4 Kids was born, minus the kicking and screaming
A family-owned business – we’re talking 4 kids and 7 grandkids – Brands 4 Kids is headed by mum Joan, dad Dave and daughter Karli. Self-proclaimed favourite daughter, Karli, used to live in San Francisco and had her first baby, Ollie, there. During one of Joan and Dave’s many visits, they chanced upon a teething product (The Teething Egg) that they instantly fell in love with.
After some frenzied calls and investigative work, doting-grandma-kids-obsessed Joan and here-he-goes-again-with-the-ideas Dave got in touch with the owners and secured the distribution rights for Australia and New Zealand. After a year or so of distributing The Teething Egg locally, Dave decided it was time to top up his extremely full plate by bringing in more amazing kids’ products to expand the range. We aren’t kidding when we say there’s no stopping this man…
And so, here we are today. Brands 4 Kids has since grown over the years, with majority of the brands designed in-house. Upon her return to Sydney, Dave was quick to rope Karli into the business, knowing that her Occupational Therapist and Postpartum Doula background would come in handy.
With 7 grandkids keeping us all in check, “it takes a village” has become a personal family mantra. We’d like to think we know a thing or two about what works for babies and their caregivers…

A sneak peek into what goes on behind-the-scenes – there’s always time for fun and food
To say Dave and Joan’s house (affectionately named ‘Central Station’) is always hustling and bustling would be a wild understatement. Between the grandkids’ playdates and sleepovers, there’s never a quiet moment – the downsizing dream has well and truly been put on hold.
When Dave’s not tinkering with the tools and working on a new DIY project, you’ll catch him tucking into a suspiciously constantly-topped-up bowl of ice cream in front of the TV. If it moves on the screen, he’s watching it.
As for Joan, if she’s not force-feeding you her latest kitchen creations, she’ll be scampering down the street saying hi to mothers with babies, begging for a hold. Also, can’t say no to chips. Or a new kitchen gadget. Don’t even get us started on cook books.
And of course, it goes without saying, your ongoing support means the world to us.
